How do you transplant a honeysuckle bush?

Can you divide a large one without killing it? And how do you do it?

How do you transplant a honeysuckle bush?
These plants are extremely tough and easy to transplant. I have transplanted several in order to enjoy the fragrance of the flowers and to provide some screening and privacy along a fence.

Trim the growth back to about 5' above ground in order to make moving the plant manageable. Dig around the base of the plant without cutting back the roots too severely. You can safely divide a large rootball, but again, be careful not to cut the roots back too much.

Like any other transplant, dig a hole about twice the size of the rootball. Do not bury the plant any deeper than it was originally. Pack some good rich topsoil under and around the rootball and water it in. Make sure that you water regularly until the roots are established in their new home.

You should get a lot of new growth next spring.

Good luck with your transplant.
