Is there a way to prune a honeysuckle bush not the vine or should I just let it go wild?

I would highly recommend keeping the shrub pruned back. Wait until after it has finished blooming, then prune. Be a little aggressive. Many varieties of the shrub can get to 12' tall and equally as wide! If you keep it cut back you'll also get rid of the berries. The berries lead to seeds, and volunteer seedlings growing all over through your fences etc. It can be a very invasive shrub too!

If you cut it back in the fall or spring, you'll cut off your new flowers before they even bloom.

Every 3-4 years you should also thin out the shrub, removing a few of the largest (thickest) stems all the way to the ground. Younger wood produces better blooms.

Consider using ESPOMA 'hollytone' or 'tree tone' on your honeysuckle (Lonicera), follow the directions on the bag, to get even better growth and flowers.

I hope that this helps

Good luck-

Honey suckle is a very hardy shrub, you can safely prune it to suit the shape you want, by reducing no more than a third of the plant, try not to cut too hard back into the hard wood.Do this when your plant is starting a new flush of growth.
Reply:You should be able to cut it back without killing it. I don't think you can kill honeysuckle! We have been cutting some back for yrs. and it only keeps it under control for a short time before we have to cut it back again. It continues to bloom and to grow.
Reply:I've had a vine in my yard for years now. I just cut it back to where I want it. They 're extremely hardy apparently because it never seems to mind what I do to it. Considering the fact they thrive out in the wild, their temperament must be what helps them survive.

Last summer, the employees of the landlord's townhouses behind us got our honeysuckle vine with a weed eater. They were mercifulless but my vine is blooming again. Thankfully, I haven't seen those particular employees this summer. Good riddance to them!

A few years ago, I had several honeysuckle bushes. They were equally hardy as the vine. I cut them down though due to the bumble bees coming up on the deck. When my husband misses mowing the yard, I've seen young stems pushing up from the ground beneath as their roots are still there.
Reply:Let it grow if you'd like to have butterflies and hummingbirds come visit. You can prune to shape it as you like and keep it a size that you prefer.
