My back yard is infested and I have been fighting the stuff for years as I'd like to landscape the back yard and make it parklike. Kind of like a place to sit and think, pray, and be alone with God.
Is there any surefire way to get rid of honeysuckle?
i had this same problem when i moved into a house, it was ALL OVER, but i got it under control. here's what i did, by myself, and with the advice of a professional landscape architect.
rip it out by the roots. it comes out pretty easy because the roots don't go deep. once i pulled and i got one vine that was like 30 feet, just by following it along its course and pulling it all the way.
then, get round-up for tough stuff, like poison ivy, in concentrate. make it about 30% stronger (dilute with LESS water) than the instructions say and spray it. this will kill it pretty much forever.
then, wait before you try to landscape, because the roundup will still be in the area for a few days. after it's all cleared, make your sanctuary letting Him do the guiding. invite others to pray with you, or reflect in a solitary manner. good luck!
Reply:IDK, But I want some honeysuckle... I cant get it to grow in my yard..
Remember.. Gasoline will kill anything... so just put a cup of gasoline near the roots... and then it might kill the grass within a few inches of it... but then after winter and such, you can plant whatever you want there... in place of the honeysuckle...
Reply:This might take a long time but if you will give it something to climb on and train it back away from the house. keep all the runners from touching the ground as they will make roots and start a new plant. when you have it all pulled back build an arbor and let it grow to cover it make your meditation place under this heavenly smelling arbor. Your honeysuckle is just looking for something to climb. Or if you live in Texas you can bring it to me lol.
Reply:You need to spray it with Round Up. Be careful not to get the Round Up on any desirable plants. It will take a week or so after spraying before you start to see any effect. You may need to repeat the cycle 3 weeks or so apart. After the vines die down, remove them. Then water the area real well. Wait a couple of weeks to see if you get any new shoots. If so, repeat the above!
I LOVE honeysuckle -- but it can really get away from you if you are not careful!!
Reply:Dig the roots out and spray any growth with 2-4D. Or cultivate it and enjoy the scent and hummingbirds.
Reply:Oh heck..Honeysuckle smells wonderful..and is a great vine to cover stuff.....but if you MUST get rid of it you can use ROUNDUP......But I would hate to see you get rid of it..cause it is a wonderful smell and cover like I said but obviously do as you wish. But be careful with Roundup.....cause it will kill all that grows there till next year...usually.
Reply:my neighbors have goats and they LOVE honeysuckle. SInce the goats have been there, the honeysuckle has dissapeared.
But I don't think that is what you really wanted to hear, sorry, other than digging it up and spreading a chemical that will kill EVERYTHING, I don't have a soution for you.
Reply:Why would you want to, it is beautiful and smells so wonderful one thing that I miss about living in Texas is the honey suckles.
