HI
I was wondering if anyone knows what to do with honeysuckle over the winter? Will it be alright outside?
I also want to know this for my roses? Should I prune? They've got a few roses on at the moment...
Winter plant care?
Do absolutely nothing with your honey suckle. They are winter hardy You can add some mulch around them if you want to if your winters get extrememly cold.
Do not prune roses until the temperature stay constantly below 5 degrees Centigrade. You do not want to encourage any more new growth. I usually don't prune mine until December.
Only prune the bushes that are over 12 inches tall and don't prune the climbers.
Any you prune leave at least 12 to 18 inches tall.
Make sure you mound them up for winter too. They need that extra protection.
Reply:Thanks you for your answers, but can u remind me what mulch is and also what 'mounding them up' means?
Hmm seems to be some difference of opinion about when to prune the roses tho.... Report It
Reply:Yes it will be ok for the winter. I am in the far north and mine survive nicely. Roses are best pruned in the spring, after you see the new growth coming up, cut out all the dead stuff.
