What kind of goat should I get for property management?

I'm needing some goats to help me clear (and keep clear) dense underbrush %26amp; vines (kudzu, blackberry, honeysuckle, etc) but I've no idea what types I should get. The only goats I see for sale in my area (advertised) are show type goats.

I want some animals I won't feel sorry for, and can handle the brutle southern heat %26amp; humidity.

Some of the area I need to clear is unable to be fenced - hence the need to clear. I plan on staking down a 50' wire robe, and leashing the goats to that to give them a long run.

Once the area's are clear enough, I'll fence off and use the fence to maintain their location(s).

What kind of goat should I get for property management?
The pygmy goats I had never really did much to pull their own weight around the property. I semi-recall our nubian eating more of the brush and other things, So i'd recommend a larger breed (such as the nubian).

I do recall our goats eating things we didn't want them to eat, quite frequently actually. So make sure you keep them back from anything that you don't want mowed to the ground. Also, they'll need supplemental feeding to keep healthy, and you'll need to check the area they're eating down for any toxic plants. Just because its toxic, doesn't mean they won't eat it. Theres actually a better chance that they WILL eat it, they're contrary creatures like that. One of our goats escaped and ate most of a pine tree before we noticed.

It's a valid idea to use goats, just make sure you know what you're getting into, they're not as quick to eat everything as everyone thinks.
Reply:This is actually quite funny because my girlfriend wanted to rent a goat just for the heck of it and didn't realize that you could actually RENT goats.

GoatFinder.com has a bunch of links to places where you can rent goats for "land management". Imagine my girlfriend's surprise when she found it.

P.S. You might also want to change your attitude a little, re: the "I want something I won't feel sorry for" part. These living creatures are helping YOU to do work that you don't want to do yourself or hire people to actually do, so you better treat them as you would a valued worker.
